Power Magazine recently named Kansas City Power & Light's (KCP&L) Iatan 2 generation station Plant of the Year for the development and execution of an "innovative energy plan that reduced overall fleet emissions, ensuring the region's future electricity supply." The plant went online in August 2010 in time for the summer 2010 peak load. Designed with a supercritical steam boiler for maximum electrical power, Iatan 2 emits 1.3 million tons less carbon dioxide per year than the average for U.S. coal plants while supplying an additional 850 megawatts of reliable power. Burns & McDonnell provided permitting, design, procurement, construction management and startup services for the project.
