230-kV Substation Upgrades

Burns & McDonnell was selected for a design-build 230-kV project near Richmond, Va. The Fentress, Hickory and Shawboro Substations were modified to improve reliability of Dominion’s 230-kV system. Burns & McDonnell and its joint venture partner, New River Electrical, provided turnkey services to complete the project. Burns & McDonnell procured all engineered equipment and New River provided commodity materials.
The project included 230-kV bay additions at two substation sites and a transformer bank addition at another site.
