Procter & Gamble needed to replace its existing, aged boiler at its Kansas City, Kan., manufacturing facility. Burns & McDonnell located the new boilers, two 70,000 pounds/hour, 150 psig units, in a vacated area and tied them into the existing steam and condensate heater system. One boiler was fired with natural gas, and the other ran on dual fuel — natural gas with fuel oil back-up.
Burns and McDonnell performed detailed design in the process, mechanical/piping, civil/structural/architectural, electrical/instrumentation and controls disciplines. Deliverables included layouts, piping routing, boiler and feedwater system specifications, building specifications, foundation design, electrical design and tie-in designations. Burns & McDonnell purchased all equipment for this project.
Burns & McDonnell managed and subcontracted the new facility construction with no lost-time or recordable incidents and also provided commissioning, startup and training assistance for the new boilers.
- Completed project with only 2 percent change from the original bid
- Performed facility construction with no lost-time or recordable incidents
