CCTV Highway Surveillance Camera System

Burns & McDonnell completed design of a comprehensive surveillance camera system for the Illinois Department of Transportation. The system involved the installation of several pole mounted CCTV cameras at strategic locations on the Dan Ryan/Stevenson interchange and the Dan Ryan/Eisenhower interchange to monitor the on and off ramps for traffic blockage.
Camera video signals transmit to a traffic system center at Oak Park, then via microwave link to IDOT District One Headquarters in Schaumberg, and finally to the Chicago-Traffic Information Center. The entire system is monitored at all three locations.
Burns & McDonnell completed the project design in less than two months with extensive coordination between agencies and suppliers.
