Downtown Plaza Revitalization

Burns & McDonnell provided electrical and civil engineering for the downtown plaza revitalization plan for the City of Highland, Ill. Among the improvements implemented:
- New curb and gutter, pavement rotomilling and overlay of Laurel Street, Main Street and Washington Street along the west, north, and east sides of the square, respectively.
- New sidewalks and ramps along both sides of the four roadways surrounding the square.
- New sidewalks within the square.
- New 8-inch diameter water main to replace the existing 2-inch diameter line located beneath Washington Street between Broadway and Main Streets.
- Upgrade of the storm sewer system to include replacement of curb inlets, new curb inlets, and minor storm sewer piping.
- New water and sanitary sewer services to accommodate future restrooms.
- Limited street print.
- Decorative street and plaza light standards.
- Upgrade of the utility feeder to support an additional pad mounted transformer.
- Modification of the power distribution system located beneath the fountain to include relocation of the fountain pump motor controllers and fountain lighting controls to the new pavilion.
- New underground electrical feeder system to support the power requirements of the new pavilion.
- New underground power distribution system to support and accommodate perimeter holiday and special event lighting.
- Modification of pole mounted electrical equipment such as timers, photo eyes and overhead splices to accommodate new perimeter street lights.
