Emergency Department Addition

Rick Keeler was responsible for design of an addition to house a 15,000-square-foot emergency department. The plan utilizes a central nursing station with few walls to optimize the view of patient treatment spaces.

The doors to the trauma rooms and 11 of 13 treatment rooms are visible from the nurses station. All rooms are designed for maximum flexibility and multiple use.

Recognizing the emergency department as the true front door to the hospital, the design featured a pleasant waiting room with large windows, skylights in the nurses station and an inviting interior design department-wide. The design includes digital radiology and electronic patient tracking system. Project completed by Rick Keeler while with another firm, prior to joining Burns & McDonnell.
