F-22 Maintenance Facility
Location: Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla.
Client: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District
Burns & McDonnell provided design services for this 27,500-square-foot facility that supports the maintenance of the F-22 composite components as well as the repair and application of low observable “stealth” coatings for the aircraft. The facility includes two coatings restoration bays; composite repair and curing areas; paint staging, mixing and storage areas; tool cribs; and associated support and administration space. Each of the two bays provides laminar crossflow velocity using 100 percent outside air supplied through plenum doors and exhausted through a three-stage NESHAP-compliant dry filter wall system.
Electrical systems include exterior primary distribution, interior secondary distribution, 400-hertz systems, lighting, fire alarm, local area network, telephone, public address, security systems and lightning protection. Site work includes new airfield pavements, parking, landscaping and site utilities.
