Hangar Design & Construction
Location: Houston Intercontinental Airport
Client: Continental Airlines
Burns & McDonnell completed design and construction inspection services for this wide- and narrow-body hangar project for Continental Airlines at Houston Intercontinental Airport. The wide-body hangar comprised 87,000 square feet and accommodated B-777 aircraft for general purpose maintenance. The narrow-body hangar comprised 27,000 square feet for maintenance of B-700/200 aircraft. The project also included 80,000 square feet of maintenance shops, storage and administrative area.
The entire project was a fast-track design completed in six months. Burns & McDonnell also provided extensive construction phase services and the on-site and home office support needed to facilitate the accelerated construction schedule. Both hangars were built, inspected and turned over to Continental Airlines in nine months.
