I-55/Franklin Street Connector Ramp Rehabilitation

Burns & McDonnell provided construction engineering services for a Chicago reconstruction project for the Illinois Department of Transportation. The rehabilitation of the I-55 Franklin Street Connector Ramps on northbound and southbound Franklin Street Connector included bridges over and under the CTA line and interface with the adjacent Metra Rock Island Line.
- Reconstruction of ramp bridge — approximately 52 meters (westbound I-55 to southbound Franklin Street over I-55)
- Reconstruction of the superstructure of two ramp bridges — approximately 500 meters (eastbound I-55 to northbound Franklin Street and southbound Franklin Street to westbound I-55 Ramp over Wentworth Avenue and westbound I-55 to northbound I-90/94 ramp)
- Reconstruction of the superstructure of one mainline bridge approximately 110 meters (southbound Franklin Street over I-55 and westbound I-55 to southbound Franklin)
- Reconstruction of the bridge deck and partial superstructure repairs of one mainline bridge approximately 130 meters (northbound Franklin Street over I-55 and westbound I-55 to southbound Franklin Street ramp
- Rehabilitation and resurfacing of approximately 800 meters of mainline pavement
- Shoulder replacement along mainline
- Reconstruction of over 10,000 square meters of mainline and ramp pavement
- Drainage improvements
- Lighting improvements along mainline
- Overhead signage improvements
