New Airport Facilities

Burns & McDonnell provided program management services for new airport facilities. This $160 million project included a master plan and schematic design by Burns & McDonnell for new terminal facilities, parking and roadway systems, new aircraft apron, new control tower, rehabilitation of airfield systems, new utility infrastructure, mitigation of a 100-year flood risk, and integration of airfield maintenance facilities at the New York Air Reserve National Guard complex.
The second phase of the project involved the program management by Burns & McDonnell to package the work, both for design and construction, to optimize the involvement by local consultants and construction companies. Burns & McDonnell, with assistance from Turner Construction Co., had responsibility for the coordination of the design and construction cost control and scheduling of several infrastructure projects. Those projects included: mitigation of the floodplain; upgrade of required utilities; and replacement and/or upgrade of existing facilities (aircraft fueling, airfield lighting and apron expansion). Some portions of the program were designed by Burns & McDonnell with preparation of construction drawings and specifications. This program management required coordination with airlines, governmental agencies and other airport tenants. The program was implemented while maintaining full operations.
