Orangecrest Substation Transformer Addition

Location: Riverside, Calif.

Client: Riverside Public Utilities

Completion Date: June 2008

Burns & McDonnell provided project management and design services for the addition of a 24MVA, 69/12.47-kV transformer at Riverside Public Utility's Orangecrest Substation in the City of Riverside, Calif. The existing 69-kV position ring bus substation was expanded to accommodate the new transformer position to serve new loads in the city's quickly expanding Orangecrest area.

The scope of design work included the new transformer, high side circiut switcher, new 69-kV breaker for the new ring bus position, 15-kV switchgear for distribution, and two new 15-kV, 6,000-MVAR two-stage switched capacitor banks.

Additionally, the existing control building was expanded by 20 feet to allow for new bus differential, breaker fail relaying and new circut switcher and circut breaker control. Additionally, Burns & McDonnell provided design services for a new substation automation system using a Novatech Orion5R platform and Novatech Orion Distribution I/O Modules.

The new equipment is scheduled to be in service in June 2008.
