Richard Keeler served as project manager and designer for the 13-story addition to University Hospital while with another firm prior to joining Burns & McDonnell. University Hospital is the teaching hospital for the University of Texas at San Antonio Health Science Center. The master plan and design was completed in three phases. Phase 1, five floors, included the county's Level 1 Trauma Center, Radiology Department, Computer Center, Labor and Delivery, Laboratory and an 85-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Phase 2 was an additional four floors for Patient Rooms, a Psychiatric Unit and shell space. Phase 3, the remaining four floors, houses Operating Rooms, Transplant Unit and Patient Rooms. A current project under construction is a total renovation of the main hospital laboratory.
