Efficient, Reliable Central Utility Plants
Your central utility plant is the heart of your facility.
Burns & McDonnell will help you keep it working — with the efficiency and performance you need today.
Improved Efficiency, Long-Term Savings
Today, it's not enough for your plant to simply provide reliable services. Environmental performance, energy efficiency, and controlling operating and capital improvement costs are more important than ever before.
With more than 80 years of experience in building thermal systems and central utility plants, Burns & McDonnell can help you improve efficiency and control costs, by outsourcing tasks that detract from your core business, evaluating and upgrading existing systems, designing hybrid systems that give you flexibility in energy sources and analyzing feasibility of combined heat and power (CHP) or other solutions to fit your unique situation.
Central Utility Plant, University of Chicago
The West Plant project includes the construction of a new combined utility plant designed to deliver central chilled water, steam and compressed air. The project also includes campus-wide underground distribution piping including high-pressure steam, condensate lines, compressed air, and drip lines, as well as chilled water supply and returned piping. The South Plant project includes the construction of a new central chilled water plant. The plant will be a two-story structure, approximately 24,000 square feet, with the cooling towers on the roof.
Central Utility Plant, Wheaton College
Burns & McDonnell provided all design and construction services for a new central heating and cooling plant for Weaton College, Wheaton, Ill. The scope of work included expanding the college's utility infrastructure to convey steam and chilled water from the new heating and cooling plant to academic buildings, dormitories and athletic facilities throughout the campus.
