Overhead Transmission Design and Construction
Your job is to deliver power. Ours is to give you a better way to get it there. When your transmission line must overcome today's challenges of moving more power with less time, space and resources — we'll find a way.
Experience Plus Innovation
Burns & McDonnell has the stability, resources and experience to complete your project on time and within budget — and the innovative drive to translate state-of-the-art design into practical field solutions.
We're experienced in every facet of power delivery, from routing and permitting to overhead, foundation and structure design to construction, for projects ranging from 69-kV through 500-kV lines. Burns & McDonnell was among the first firms to bring program management expertise to large transmission construction.
Burns & McDonnell program management and design-build/EPC delivery make sure projects are completed with outstanding schedule and budget performance.

The Facts You Need
Our in-house experts also perform a full range of studies to help you get the most out of existing facilities. These studies include lightning analysis to improve reliability, conductor selection studies, transmission upgrade and feasibility studies, asset evaluation and system operational-policy studies.
The Internet has made available technologies and resources that enable us to go farther than before for preliminary transmission line design. Geo-referenced USGS maps and Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) are available at Web sites such as http://data.geocomm.com/ and http://earth.google.com/. This information can be imported into modeling programs like PLS-CADD, where an alignment can be created for cost estimates and route selection. View an example of what can be accomplished with this technology.
