Burns & McDonnell was responsible for wetland delineation/permitting (Section 404 and 401) and provided environmental support where necessary for the transmission and collection systems.
34.5-kV Collection System
Burns & McDonnell was responsible for designing, specifying and supporting construction for two wind farms, each consisting of approximately 100 MW. There were four 34.5-kV underground collection feeders identified for each wind farm.
230-kV Transmission Line
Burns & McDonnell was responsible for designing, specifying and supporting two sections (5 and 11 miles) of 230-kV single circuit transmission lines.
34.5-kV/230-kV Collection Substation East (approximately 100MW each)
Burns & McDonnell was responsible for designing, specifying and supporting construction for a 230-kV radial bus substation with major equipment consisting of three 230-kV breakers,
one 34.5-kV/230-kV, 115 MVA step-up transformer, one 35-kV switchgear lineup,
20 MVAR switched capacitor bank and 4 MVAR Dynamic Var Compensator.
34.5-kV/ 230-kV Collection Substation West (approximately 100 MW each)
Burns & McDonnell was responsible for designing, specifying and supporting construction for a 230-kV radial bus substation with major equipment consisting of one 230-kV breaker, one 34.5/230-kV, 115 MVA step-up transformer, one 35-kV switchgear line-up, 15 MVAR switched capacitor bank and 4 MVAR Dynamic Var Compensator.
The aggressive project schedule, dynamic changes during permitting and design, and limited information available for a detailed design made this a challenging and exciting project.
