Burns & McDonnell is conducting a series of hazardous, toxic and radioactive waste (HTRW) studies at this active military site. Activities include surface and subsurface investigations at a number of closed and active facilities. Maintaining a geographic information system (GIS) for this project requires Burns & McDonnell to integrate with the existing system at the fort and work closely with other Corps of Engineers contractors to share data in a common format.
Burns & McDonnell provides support to the project by:
- Maintaining Arc/INFO coverages and ArcView shapefiles containing spatial basemap and well survey data
- Maintaining the database for laboratory results
- Projecting and spatially registering survey data and aerial photographs
- Digitizing basemap information from aerial photography
- Producing report exhibits using GIS tools
- Automating mapping procedures for regular monitoring and reporting of chemicals of concern in soil and groundwater
- Delivering electronic databases, including coverages, projects, and project databases
As the technology changes and new GIS tools are available to the Fort Riley project team, Burns & McDonnell is adapting methods to provide the best solutions. The advantages of this long-term relationship are evident in the quality of work we can accomplish together.
