In response to regulatory observations, Abraxis engaged Burns & McDonnell to support replacement of the HVAC systems serving its sterile storage area. The common sterile storage area served multiple lines and presentations with only a six-day outage for the replacement.

As part of an ongoing multiphase project, Abraxis hired Burns & McDonnell to support phase 1B — the replacement of the sterile storage HVAC units and ductwork. The final design incorporated dedicated air handlers by room and featured plenum ceiling design (large area laminar flow zones), low wall returns and terminal high-efficiency particulate air filters.
Two weeks before the scheduled plant shutdown, when the validation contractor indicated that it would not be able to support the project, Burns & McDonnell provided resources for protocol generation and execution, returning the facility to operation on time as planned.
