Electrical Transmission & Distribution
Our substation projects include large generating plant switchyards, transmission/distribution substations, and line terminal or equipment additions and upgrades to existing substations.

Sample Clients

TXU
Burns & McDonnell has engineered more than 297 miles of transmission line for TXU Electric Delivery, including 230 miles of 138-kV line, in 23 projects constructed and placed in service to date. An additional 20 138-kV transmission projects are in design and construction. The total constructed value of these projects is nearly $200 million.

FirstEnergy
After a FirstEnergy transformer went down just before summer peak-use months, Burns & McDonnell design-build teams installed 115-kV capacitor banks at two FirstEnergy substation locations. The capacitor banks were installed and online in just 12 weeks — in time for the hottest days of summer.

Northeast Utilities
Burns & McDonnell was selected by Northeast Utilities Service Co. (NUSCO) as program manager of the Middletown/Norwalk Bulk Transmission Project. The project scope includes nearly 70 miles of new 345-kV transmission line, of which 24 miles will be solid dielectric underground cable. Middletown/Norwalk is the largest transmission capital project in the country and the first application of program management in the power delivery industry.
