We believe the next generation of STEM thinkers will engineer a revolutionary water filtration system or design a building with zero environmental impact. With a strong STEM foundation and ongoing support, today’s students will shape the world of tomorrow. We’re here to support you (and your parents) as you find your path. Contact us to jumpstart your future with any of our programs.
Supporting the world-changers of tomorrow.
STEM Resources
We share your passion for getting students excited about STEM. We're committed to empowering kids to be STEM stars, so we've collected personal stories from our STEM leaders, activities to engage your students and lessons to expand their horizons. Check out our STEM Resources.
Virtual Job Shadowing
High school students can get a glimpse into the future by connecting online with young professionals at Burns & McDonnell. These professionals will describe their career path and what it took to get where they did. They’ll also discuss a “typical day,” from interacting with clients and co-workers to project work. You’ll have the opportunity to develop networking skills that will help you in finding internships and jobs in the future. A few key things to note:
- Job shadowing is available year round.
- A two-hour online session includes meeting with two career professionals.
- Choose any combination of disciplines or specialties, and we’ll match you with a relevant young professional. Not sure what area you may be interested in? We’ll suggest some options.
Your World: Empowered/Open Houses
Through "Your World: Empowered" events, you and your parents can connect with the Burns & McDonnell team. It’s a one-stop shop for shaping your future for students in grades 7-12 — and their parents, teachers and club sponsors. You’ll see our facilities and get information about our programs, then hear the real-life perspective of our employee-owners. Sign up here.
Prospective Student/College Nights
Coordinated through specific universities and hosted at Burns & McDonnell, these nights provide a great overview of the presenting university — benefits, life on campus, application process and financial aid. High school students (and their parents) can connect with alumni employee-owners, network with people who can help guide your college search process, and meet students who could end up studying alongside you in college.
Internships
We know many of you are already thinking about internships, college majors and post-college careers. Our internships are primarily available for college students, but we like that you’re thinking ahead. Scheduling a job shadow and attending our events are great ways to increase your exposure to those who hire interns.
Camps
Engineering U is a free three-day academy where students take part in hands-on engineering projects. Annual sessions are available for incoming college freshmen, high school juniors and seniors, and high school girls. Sign up here.
