HOUSTON — To keep pace with the continued strong demand for engineering and construction services, Burns & McDonnell is adding 20,296 square feet of renovated office space at its existing location at 1700 West Loop South in the Galleria area of Houston. The firm expects to add 300 jobs in Houston by 2015, 100 of which in the next 18 months.
"Our unique employee-ownership culture fosters consultants who are motivated to do whatever it takes to make our clients successful, and this dedication has developed strong client relationships that have steadily grown our market share," says John Lionberger, PE, senior vice president and general manager of the Houston office of Burns & McDonnell.
In Houston, Burns & McDonnell currently has 191 employee-owners, who occupy 38,878 square feet on two floors of 1700 West Loop South, owned by Younan Properties. The additional, renovated floor brings total square footage on three floors to 59,174 square feet in this Class A office building attached to Marriott Hotel in the Galleria area of Houston. The new space on the 15th floor allows for 130 additional workstations, augmenting the 217 workstations currently available on the 10th and third floors. Burns & McDonnell plans to move into its new space - featuring break-out areas for collaboration and work stations for clients and visitors - this fall. In the expansion, Joe Peddie of Cushman & Wakefield represented Burns & McDonnell, while Steve Rocher and Kristen Rabel of CB Richard Ellis represented the landlord, Younan Properties.
Burns & McDonnell has grown tenfold in Houston in the past decade, nearly doubling since 2008. In 2008, Burns & McDonnell added its 10th floor office space to accommodate growth. Burns & McDonnell's lease at 1700 West Loop South extends through April 30, 2015. With projected growth, the firm will need 20,000 to 40,000 square feet of additional space by the time its lease ends.
Nationwide, Burns & McDonnell expects to add 1,000 jobs by year-end 2013, which would bring total employment to 4,000.
"While we are undertaking an aggressive recruiting plan, we will continue to be selective, seeking highly motivated, technically skilled professionals to grow with the firm as Burns & McDonnell employee-owners," Lionberger says.
In addition to recruiting experienced engineering and construction professionals, Burns & McDonnell is expanding its current college recruiting program at Texas universities.
The Houston office of Burns & McDonnell focuses on electric transmission and distribution, aviation, military defense and support facilities, oil and gas processing plants, design-build construction, and environmental services.
