KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Burns & McDonnell has been selected by Dominion Virginia Power to provide engineer-procure-construct (EPC) services for the 1,300-megawatt (MW) Warren County combined-cycle power project near Front Royal, Va. The services will be provided in a joint venture with Zachry Industrial, Inc., a subsidiary of Zachry Holdings, Inc.
A full notice to proceed with the Warren County Project is anticipated in May 2012. Completion is projected to be in 2014. The 3-on-1 configuration power facility will incorporate a Mitsubishi TC4F steam turbine and three Mitsubishi M501GAC gas turbines and dry cooling via an air-cooled condenser.
"Burns & McDonnell has a proven record of persistence, diligence and willingness to go the extra mile and we're proud to combine our efforts with Zachry for Dominion Energy," said Ray Kowalik, president of Burns & McDonnell's Energy Division. "When complete, the Warren County Power Station will be one of the cleanest and most efficient generating assets in Dominion's portfolio."
"Our culture and values align well with Dominion, and we are excited about the opportunity this project will bring in renewing our customer relationship," said Randy Park, vice president for Zachry. "Our successful bid for this work was built around the depth and completeness of our EPC offering, our recent work with Mitsubishi G technology, an established relationship with our partner on large-scale, complex projects and our flourishing EPC delivery experience."
The Warren County Project will generate regional contract awards for certain materials and services in Virginia and will create hundreds of construction jobs. Zachry will look to its extensive employee database, giving hiring preference to former employees including Virginia residents, as well as qualified local craft to fill available positions.
Dominion is one of the nation's largest producers and transporters of energy, with a portfolio of approximately 28,200 MW of generation; 11,000 miles of natural gas transmission; and gathering and storage pipeline and 6,300 miles of electric transmission lines. There is an anticipated demand growth of 4,500 MW by 2021.
