Dennis W. (Denny) Scott has been named chief financial officer (CFO) of Burns & McDonnell, succeeding former CFO Mark Taylor who retired at year end. Scott also has been elected to the Burns & McDonnell Board of Directors. Both moves were effective Jan. 1, 2014.

"On the list of reasons for Burns & McDonnell's success Mark Taylor is right at the top. He has been the right man at the right time, helping lead the growth and development of Burns & McDonnell. His ability to assemble a great team of finance and accounting professionals is one of his biggest accomplishments," said Greg Graves, chairman and CEO of Burns & McDonnell. "Denny is moving into a new role with a great team behind him, and he is the perfect fit to provide financial leadership during the next stage of our firm's development."

Scott has served as Burns & McDonnell's chief administrative officer since 2004, leading real estate efforts and overseeing human resources, governmental affairs and other operational groups. Prior to that, he served 10 years as the firm's human resources director.

A certified public accountant, Scott earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Northwest Missouri State University in1985 and a master's degree in taxation from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1993. He is a member of the executive board for the Kansas City Sports Commission. He also is a board member for Employee-Owned S Corporations of America, which works to preserve and protect S Corporations and the benefits of employee-ownership such corporations provide for retirement.

As chief financial officer, Scott will return to the Finance Department he joined upon arrival at Burns & McDonnell, as an accountant in 1991. Today the department is more than four times larger, with 75 employee-owners handling accounting, payroll, insurance and other services for the firm with more than 30 offices in the United States and abroad.
