KANSAS CITY, MO — Continued growth in key market sectors has enabled Burns & McDonnell to move up on several widely watched 2014 industry rankings.

In the recently released Engineering News-Record (ENR) annual ranking of Top 500 Design Firms, Burns & McDonnell moved up from No. 20 to No. 18 among national and international design firms. Burns & McDonnell reported total design revenue of $1.039 billion for 2013, compared with $933.0 million in the prior year. ENR rankings are determined by full calendar year revenue for the prior year.

Burns & McDonnell also moved up one place to rank No. 4 on the ENR list of top design firms serving the electrical power sector. The firm is currently providing engineering design and construction management services for some of the largest electrical transmission, distribution and generation projects in North America. As a result of that activity, Burns & McDonnell also ranked as the largest firm on the Electrical Construction & Maintenance ranking of Top 10 firms providing electrical design services.

In the Process and Petrochemical sector, Burns & McDonnell moved into the Top 20 for the first time at No. 19. The North American surge in oil and gas production has resulted in significant new projects in the refining, pipeline and storage markets. Burns & McDonnell also made the Top 20 among design firms serving the Manufacturing sector and ranked No. 50 on the list of International Designers.

"We are in good position right now because our long-term strategy of diversifying into multiple markets is really paying off," said Burns & McDonnell Chairman, President and CEO Greg Graves. "We really operate like a small firm even though we are approaching 5,000 people. We think that gives us the flexibility and nimbleness we need to react to an always changing market."
