Greater energy demands of summer months remind us that clients are striving to get ahead of energy use trends, including renewable resources. With states enforcing renewable portfolio standards, the DOE is making funding available for these projects.
By the time you read this, summer will be in full swing. Longer daylight hours will bring more opportunity for outdoor activities but also greater energy demands.
In this issue of BenchMark, you’ll read about our work on behalf of clients striving to break new ground in the use of energy technologies, including biomass-to-energy technology. We’re also helping our clients protect underground water resources, prevent the release of hazardous air pollutants and test new configurations of photovoltaic arrays.
Many states have set renewable portfolio standards, and the U.S. Department of Energy is making funding available for innovative renewable energy projects. As a nation, we’re embracing the concept that to achieve both sustainability and prosperity, everyone is going to have to pitch in: government, industry and each of us, as we implement new technologies, improve existing technologies and modernize critical infrastructure such as the electrical transmission grid.
Ideas for sustainability are being adopted at all levels, from large-scale facilities to customer-based solutions. Even small initiatives can have large impacts over time. We’ve come a long way — and we have a long way to go. Hope you’ll find evidence in these pages that together we can find the will and the way to meet our goals.
Have a great summer!
