- 103-MW Wind Development
Wind Quarry LLC is developing a 103-megawatt (MW) wind development in western South Dakota. As permitting manager for the project, our planning staff coordinated all aspects of permitting from wildlife to archaeology surveys and served as the primary point of contact with both the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission (SDPUC) and the Western Area Power Administration.
The PSC requires wind developments over 100 MW to submit an application for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity, while the Western Area Power Administration requires compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Burns & McDonnel completed the SDPUC application in less than three months and in early 2016 was preparing the first environmental assessment that tiers to Western’s Regional Wind Energy Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
