- Aircraft Maintenance Complex
Burns & McDonnell was selected to perform design services for a design-build RFP for a new maintenance hangar, training and standardization administrative facility. Currently, the aircraft maintenance hangar and the administrative offices are in separate locations. The goal is to consolidate all facilities and functions into a single training complex.
The new 97,935-square-foot complex will provide properly configured space to support aircraft maintenance functions for the fleet of various aircraft assigned to the Oklahoma City Branch of the U.S. Custom Services Air and Marine Interdiction Division, as well as supporting its training and standardization mission.
Functional areas include approximately 49,320 square feet for the aircraft maintenance hangar, 20,565 square feet for maintenance shops, offices and aquatics training, 28,050 square feet of administrative space for training and standardization, and another 4,995 square feet for weapons training and storage. The clear-span high-bay hangar will accommodate 12 aircraft of various configurations with an opening large enough to allow passage of a Dash-8 aircraft with proper clearances. The entire facility will have an 8-foot security fence on each side with three-strand barbed wire outriggers, two 12-foot wide cantilever gates at the main entrance, and a 12-foot wide access gate for vehicle access to and from the apron.
The exterior walls of the new facility will be primarily brick masonry veneer cavity walls and pre-finished insulated metal wall panels. Exterior fenestrations will include aluminum-extruded frames for doors and windows with tinted and insulated laminated glazing and fiberglass translucent panels. The brick veneer will have a dominant color with accent bands of soldier or sailor coursing or units of another complementary color. The standing seam metal roof system will complement the brick veneer and insulated metal wall panels. Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems will be a four-pipe variable air volume system in the shop and administrative areas. The high bay hangar will be heated with in-floor radiant heat and cooled with positive ventilation. Normal 480Y/277 and 208Y/120 volt power will be provided with emergency power provided from a diesel engine driven generator to back up the entire facility. Aircraft static grounding points will be in the hangar as well as in designated locations on the apron and will be interconnected with the facility lightning protection systems.
Fiber optic cables will connect the main communications room and the remote closets. A zoned public address system, complete security television system and an intrusion detection system (IDS) will be provided for these facilities. Fire protection systems for the shop and administrative areas will have wet pipe sprinkler systems and the hangar will be protected with an overhead pre-action fire sprinkler system with a supplemental low-level high expansion foam system. The program cost is estimated at nearly $20.75 million.
