Burns & McDonnell is providing full airfield infrastructure design for asphalt pavement beyond its useful life. The scope of work includes airfield paving design for the Runway 5R/23L (short runway), Taxiway D and Taxiway B1 pavements as well as rehabilitation design for Taxiway A. Work began with assessment of existing conditions and evaluation of options for repair. This included non-destructive testing and petrographic analysis of geotechnical cores to determine the condition of the underlying concrete. Full-depth replacement is planned for Taxiways D and B1 with a new portland cement concrete pavement section designed for an Air Force Medium Traffic loading. Taxiway A will be rehabilitated by milling the existing concrete, rubblizing the underlying concrete, and overlaying with a new asphalt pavement surface. New airfield lighting and striping will also be provided.
