Truman Medical Centers is upping its presence on Hospital Hill in Kansas City, Missouri, with its first new freestanding building on the site in more than 15 years. The surgery center is one of the latest buildings on Hospital Hill to provide medical care to patients and families within the greater downtown Kansas City area. The 89,000-square-foot facility will house ambulatory surgical services; oral, maxillofacial, orthopedic and plastic surgery; a diagnostic imaging center; physical, speech and occupational therapy; gastroenterology and urology. We're providing civil engineering and traffic studies, as well as mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering for the facility. Part of a Land Clearance Redevelopment Authority urban renewal area, the building consolidates outpatient medical and surgical services into one place. Landmark Healthcare Facilities retained Burns & McDonnell to provide complete civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection design for both the core and shell and tenant improvement contract documents. Burns & McDonnell worked closely with the architectural team, hospital personnel, and Landmark Healthcare representatives to provide a facility that meets both the current clinics' needs and future tenant's needs by incorporating flexible and modular system design.
