Burns & McDonnell is providing comprehensive planning, programming and A/E design services as the prime consultant. The Buckeye Readiness Center is a 2007 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) project supporting the Army National Guard and the Army Reserves.
The 127,105-square-foot facility is made up of six pre-engineered metal buildings to support 255 National Guard personnel and 216 Army Reserve personnel. The campus includes a classroom/locker facility, an assembly building, an administrative (USAR) building, a unit storage (USAR) building, an administrative/unit storage (ANRG), and an organizational maintenance building.

The proposed project is on the western edge of the Phoenix metropolitan area within the Town of Buckeye planning area. The site is located in virgin Sonoran Desert. Access to the site requires the extension of Miller Road for approximately 1 mile from I-10 to the site. This road will meet Maricopa County Department of Transportation standards and crosses over a dam belonging to Maricopa County Flood Control District, which will require special design standards. No potable water facilities exist within a mile of the site, and those facilities will need to be extended to the site. Wastewater will be collected and treated on site.
Interior spaces include a large extended roof assembly hall, kitchen and scullery, training rooms, recruiting office, family center, open and private office work spaces, gym, large storage areas, arms vaults, mobility locker rooms, vehicle maintenance training work bay, unheated storage and warehouse, and support areas.
Building systems include overhead wet-pipe sprinkler system, fire detection and alarm system, HVAC systems, evaporative cooling, standby power system, joint services interior intrusion detection system, mass notification system and power, data and voice networks. Force protection measures include meeting required setbacks for the building from roads and parking for a facility with no controlled perimeter, providing additional berming and raised curbs at parking areas and road intersections, providing controlled entry to service drives and meeting the requirements for the design of building systems and elements in accordance with UFC 4-010-01.
