Mayo Clinic has a long history of providing world-class care and service. Its facilities and campus reflect this high standard of quality. In order to expand the capacity of the Saint Marys Campus chiller plant in preparation for future bed towers, Burns & McDonnell was asked to perform engineering and architecture feasibility studies of how to best accommodate the growing needs. The expansion’s architectural design will complement the existing chiller plant and meet all Mayo Clinic design standards.
With the existing building situated on a steep incline, above an extensive underground campus tunnel system, the design team worked to seamlessly tie the two-story addition. Architects provided sketches and renderings to the client, expressing the team’s skill in matching the existing building while adding necessary modern upgrades for functionality and code. The team worked on sequencing the construction of the project to keep the facility functioning during construction.
