- Coarse Ore Pile Building
The mill experienced fugitive dust issues generated from its coarse ore pile. Dust from the pile was becoming a nuisance and threatening to damage nearby substation equipment. We investigated alternatives to mitigate the dust. Due to several site constraints, we recommended a full roof over wind screens and fogging/spray systems.
Using the existing conveyor system structure, we designed a new building to cover the mill’s coarse ore pile to be constructed while keeping the conveyors above and below the pile operational. The final design consisted of a structure with a clear area (no columns) of 250 feet by 500 feet, with a clear height of approximately 100 feet. The structure, using approximately 1,100 tons of new steel and 100 new trusses, together with the existing framework, has a multiple-pitched roof with semicircular ends.
The project also included mechanical and electrical upgrades to existing systems.
