- Combined Support Maintenance Shop
This Combined Support Maintenance Shop (CSMS) supports the maintenance operations and training programs of the Hawaii Army National Guard (HIARNG). The 34,625-square-foot design-bid-build project includes a surface vehicle maintenance/training facility to support Guard readiness. The objective was to create a cornerstone facility with adaptability for future needs and focused on durable and sustainable facilities for the island environment.
The functional spaces will support vehicle maintenance will include seven maintenance bays, storage areas, administrative areas, classrooms, a break room, a shower/locker room, physical training facilities, an unheated storage facility, a controlled waste handling facility, and other support spaces. The facility is designed to achieve LEED Silver certification and has been submitted to the U.S. Green Building Council. It is also designed in accordance with ASHRAE 189.1.
The 9.86-acre civil/site design includes all site demolition, grading, earthwork, utility infrastructure, military vehicle (MV) and privately owned vehicle (POV) parking, access roads and curbing, service access aprons, sidewalks, MV loading ramp, MV wash platforms, handicap accessible ramps, dumpster pad, chain link security fencing and gates, fuel spill curb drain, storm drainage and management measures (such as bioretention ponds), and sediment and erosion control measures to be implemented during construction. The pavements for the site vary and include heavy duty asphalt, heavy duty concrete and light duty asphalt.
The site features an access control point with electronic gates. The site demolition plan involves removing most existing buildings and site features, including all concrete and asphalt pavement and base material. All demolished concrete paving is to be crushed and added to the bottom of the two new bioretention ponds. The erosion and sediment control design and the stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) were prepared in accordance with all local and federal environmental regulations and standards. The design also provides the minimum required Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection standoff distances in accordance with UFC 4-010-01.
