- Control System Upgrade for Combined Cycle Facility
Burns & McDonnell provided professional engineering services, construction supervision, and commissioning support for a complete control system upgrade at a 110-MW, 1-on-1 combined cycle facility. The plant's previous control scheme incorporated interposing relays and field switches as hardwired logic for critical and noncritical systems. Burns & McDonnell redesigned the electrical system to eliminate the interposing relays and hardwired circuits and incorporated logic functionality into the Emerson Ovation control system for greater operational awareness. Burns & McDonnell worked with GE to upgrade the existing control system for the gas turbine and specified and designed instrumentation upgrades and valve replacements, including adding level measurements to the condenser and the deaerator and improving the spans of the existing drum level measurements. Burns & McDonnell provided on-site engineering support for the pre-outage construction period and throughout the outage to quickly answer questions and track construction.
