- Corporate Headquarters System Security Design
A corporate headquarters expansion on an existing campus was adding space for 1,400 work stations and related employee functions. The Burns & McDonnell physical security team worked closely with the project management team to review and verify that the security technology, features and lighting aligned with the overall security program, protective officer staffing strategy and incident response protocols. We also examined whether the company was effectively leveraging its security budget in determining the appropriate protection strategy and features.
The project included workshop hosting, plan review, in-person formal and informal interviews of stakeholders, and the development of recommendations for policy, procedure and technology changes based on site characteristics and desired operational reliability. The final report and findings were prepared in a format to meet regulatory requirements. Security features incorporated include access control, video surveillance and intrusion detection. Other deterrents include strategic lighting and prominent signage.
The Burns & McDonnell team provided detailed design and vendor management and served as owner’s security representative during construction and implementation. The lighting is located strategically throughout the campus, one of several features consistent with the principles of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED).
