- Diesel Black Start System
This project involved adding Caterpillar C175-16 diesel generators to an existing simple-cycle generating station, consisting of two GE 7FA dual-fuel combustion turbines. The diesel generators provide emergency, black start and peak-shaving power for the station.
The new black start facility includes a pre-engineered metal building adjacent to the administration building. The new building houses five diesel generators, 4,160-V paralleling switchgear, and a master control panel that provides speed and voltage control as well as synchronization capabilities. Other equipment in the building includes a fuel oil storage day tank that is automatically filled from bulk fuel oil storage on-site, a urea storage tank, urea forwarding pumps, redundant air compressors, an air dryer, a fire protection and detection system, a freeze protection system, and HVAC.
