- Electric Power Infrastructure Analysis
Burns & McDonnell provided a master planning study for the Fort Sill postwide electrical distribution system. It analyzed the growth five and 10 years out and focused on the planning, design and operation of the electrical power system to effectively meet the present and future needs of the system. The analysis was for a postwide electrical distribution with two utility substations. Aerial photography and electrical distribution circuits were overlaid for a real-world view of the electrical system.
Planning criteria used the operational limits regarding operating voltage criteria and operating thermal limits for power transformers and distribution circuit equipment. Contingency analysis examined feeder outages and the ability to pick up remaining load with circuit switching. Owner-provided future facilities were sited and load growth projection forecasted. System improvements and reconfigurations were recommended. Burns & McDonnell also revised the post's simplified electrical system block diagram with system modifications.
After the study was completed, Burns & McDonnell was involved in hands-on training with the Fort Sill Department of Public Works electrical engineering staff so that they could manipulate the model for other projects.
