- Elevated Water Storage Tank
Burns & McDonnell completed a water system master plan for the City of Willmar, Minn. Recommendations included the addition of a 750,000 gallon elevated water storage tank at the city’s North Water Treatment Plant. The bid documents also provided for the demolition of the Downtown Tank, a 150,000 gallon steel elevated water storage tank.
Construction phase engineering services included engineer review of tank foundation drawings, tank plan and details, including tank accessories. In addition, intermittent on-site visits were made by the project team to ensure construction was in conformance with the engineering documents and specified standards. Monthly progress payment requests were reviewed and recommended for payment. A final inspection of the tank and coating system, by the engineer, indicated a recommendation for acceptance.
The project was designed in fall 2000, and bids were received, evaluated and a contract awarded in early 2001. The new tank was placed in service in September 2001, two months earlier than scheduled. The demolition of the existing tank was also completed ahead of the specified completion date.
