- F-16 Maintenance Hangar Modifications
Hangar 801 was an existing 109,920-square-foot facility with a 36,000-square-foot hangar bay that serves as the mission of the of the 140th Fighter Wing. This facility permits personnel to perform the necessary tasks to maintain and repair the Fighter Wing's F-16 aircraft.
Burns & McDonnell provided modifications to the HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems for the Hangar 801 remodel. The support areas were redesigned to comply with current requirements for space allocation. All lighting systems in the support areas were redesigned and replaced to enhance building energy performance. All control systems with pneumatic operators were redesigned to accommodate electronic controls and were integrated into the facility's direct digital control (DDC) system. Specific aircraft maintenance systems were replaced and improved.
Enhancements were made to the 400-Hz power distribution system, engine exhaust system and power distribution and outlets throughout the hangar. The design included repair of an under-floor radiant heating system without removing the concrete floor and installation of an energy recovery system for each side of the hangar's support areas. Modifications to the plumbing included replacement of the domestic hot water boiler with several water heaters. Fire protection system modifications included replacement of the AFFF system with a HiEx foam system and replacement of the deluge system with a preaction system.
