Burns & McDonnell is preparing an environmental assessment (EA) to construct a system of firebreaks within the South Bloodland Range at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. The firebreaks will provide enhanced access to the remote range area for fire protection, maintenance and security. Field surveys include wetland and jurisdictional stream delineations and threatened/endangered species habitat assessments. The firm is collaborating with the Natural Resources Branch and Range Control Office to reduce the impact of firebreaks along slopes in excess of 15 percent and to avoid impact to known cultural and historic sites and the Falls Hollow Sandstone Glades.
