- Hydrant Fueling System Improvements - SFO Boarding Area G
Burns & McDonnell was retained by SFO Fuel Co., a limited liability corporation made up of airlines that purchase fuel and lease aviation fueling systems at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), to provide design-build services for modifying the jet fuel hydrant system around Boarding Area G at the airport. This project involved modifying approximately 40 hydrant pits, high and low points, as well as four isolation vaults. The hydrant system modifications were required due to differential settlement of the pavement surrounding the system access points.
The project included coordinating with SFO and the San Mateo County fire marshal, who required progress updates and meetings. Burns & McDonnell prepared detailed design of the pavement modifications, as well as airport construction and stormwater permits. Scheduling of work required some passenger gates to be out of service for more than a month. The team coordinated construction management closely with the airport in order to limit the impact on operations.
