- I-35 Managed Lanes
We were part of the general engineering consultant team on behalf of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and a subconsultant to Brown & Gay Engineering Inc. for the Managed Lanes Design-Build project for Interstate 35. The team reviewed new bridge designs, bridge inspections, rehabilitations and widenings, MSE walls and bridge class culverts. It also reviewed plans and specifications for conformity with the design-build contract technical provisions, including geotechnical, hydraulic and aesthetic standards; TxDOT design and detailing manuals; and AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
The project is phase 1 of a 10-year program in which TxDOT is investing $4.7 billion in interstate improvements. Phase 1 consists of upgrading 28 miles of interstate roadway from IH 635 to U.S. 380, which includes the addition of two reversible managed lanes, one additional general-purpose lane, and one to two additional frontage road lanes.
Specific elements within the corridor include a 2-mile bridge over Lake Lewisville, four fully directional interchanges, 28 local-road interchanges, a collector-distributor system, and bicycle/pedestrian facilities.
