This readiness center provides a permanent training site to help the Maneuver Enhancement Brigade meet its mission requirements. The joint use facility sited at Heartland Community College integrates classroom and office spaces. Shared public areas are on a separate level from the National Guard spaces to meet security guidelines. The building includes administrative offices, an assembly hall, simulator rooms, physical fitness area, learning center, kitchen, unit storage space (including an arms vault), as well as other specialty and support spaces. The building was designed to meet criteria set forth in federal design guides.
The design concept is compatible with the architectural style of the existing buildings on the campus. A separate building contains 2,100 square feet of unheated flammable materials storage space, bringing the total new facility space to approximately 57,500 square feet. Sustainable principles are integrated into the design, development, construction and operations in accordance with Executive Order 13123 and other applicable laws. The facility was designed to LEED Silver standards.
