Burns & McDonnell provided master planning, full design and construction phase services to support the beddown of 36 KC-46A aircraft at McConnell AFB, working with USACE Kansas City under an IDC Task Order with USACE Mobile. Design was fast-tracked to ensure the base is ready for arrival of the new aircraft, with design of the 165,000-square-foot, three-bay maintenance hangar and 4,500-square-foot flight simulator completed in seven months along with new airfield paving, fueling upgrades and improvements to base infrastructure and utilities. We carefully orchestrated construction phasing with the Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC), the Air Force, McConnell, USACE KC, USACE Omaha, and other A-E firms working on base to minimize impact to ongoing operations.
