- LAX Midfield Satellite Concourse
For Corgan, we are leading multiple subconsultants on the design-build joint venture team for the Midfield Satellite Concourse (MSC) North Project at LAX. We coordinated activities in various terminal engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, fire protection, special systems, ramp services, fueling, acoustics and lighting. Our team is also performing design services (fueling, ramp services and technology systems), commissioning and systems integration.
The $1.3 billion MSC will bring LAX a new multilevel concourse, associated aircraft parking aprons, taxiways/taxilanes, and systems for utilities, hydrant fueling, baggage handling, security screening and information technology.
Additionally, the program is designed to accommodate a range of existing aircraft and equipment, from Airplane Design Group (ADG) III up to ADG VI. ADG III corresponds to narrow body jets (Boeing 737 and Airbus A320). ADG V corresponds to wide body jets, such as Boeing 747 and Airbus A340, and ADG VI aircraft, often referred to as New Large Aircraft (NLA), corresponds to aircraft such as the Boeing 747-8 series and the Airbus A380.
The MSC program initially adds 11 international gates in the first phase, with plans for nine more in future phases. With an ultimate goal of expanding service, the installation of the concourse provides flexibility in gate assignments, allowing LAX to renovate other terminals while upgrading and modernizing facilities to improve passenger experience.
