Burns & McDonnell provided design and construction phase services for the rehabilitation of the existing Runway 9-27 medium-intensity edge lighting system as well as new navigational aids (NAVAIDS) and guidance signage at the Rantoul National Aviation Center. The existing Runway 9-27 edge lighting system had multiple missing fixtures and was experiencing regular circuit failures. Burns & McDonnell performed an inspection and inventory of the existing airfield electrical system, proposed a solution and provided a cost estimate to the airport and the Illinois Division of Aeronautics. The project was designed to current FAA standards for airfield lighting, navigational aids and signage and incorporated the Illinois Division of Aeronautics construction specifications. A detailed phasing plan was prepared to allow a majority of the construction to take place while the airport remained operational. The project was completed under budget and with minimal impact to airport operations.
