- Multi-Use Trail Design
Burns & McDonnell serves as the village engineer for the Sugar Loaf Township, providing a variety of professional engineering services, including the design of a 2,400-foot-long multi-use path in Dupo, Ill. The path consisted of a bituminous concrete pavement design and varied in width from 5 to 8 feet.
The Sugar Loaf Township Walking Trail entrance was within the Sugar Loaf Township Park and included connection to a pedestrian bridge. A portion of the trail continued through an area of dense trees adjacent to Little Woods Outdoor School and adjacent to Bluffview Elementary. The eastern section of the trail connected to the Village of Dupo Community Multi-Use Trail.
The Metro East Park and Recreation District and the St. Clair County Parks and Grant Committee were involved in the funding of this project. The project involved extensive coordination with the local municipalities and residents affected by the improvement. A subsequent grant involves the addition of exercise workout stations, benches and tree plantings along the trail length. Burns & McDonnell was responsible for the preparation of complete bid documents for the design of this multi-use path.
