- New Airport & Phase II Expansion
Burns & McDonnell was responsible for the site investigation, master planning and engineering development of a new general aviation reliever airport. This included construction of a 4,000-foot by 100-foot asphalt runway, 35-foot parallel taxiway, apron and more than one million cubic yards of embankment construction. The life of the conventional flexible pavements were extended through the use of Class C fly ash treated subgrades. Lighting responsibilities included geometric layout, electrical vault, lighted wind sock, airport rotating beacon, on site fueling facility, airfield lighting and signage, utilities, and NAVAIDS. Environmental issues addressed included wetlands relocation and the protection of Indian burial grounds.
Full-time construction monitoring services included on-site field representation, quality assurance testing of materials, construction survey verification and overall contract compliance and administration.
Phase II Expansion
Burns & McDonnell provided design services for the Phase II expansion of the Clay County Regional Airport to serve larger aircraft. Projects included lengthening the runway by 1,500 feet, extending the taxiway by 3,700 feet and strengthening the existing runway, taxiway and apron pavements with an asphalt overlay to accommodate heavier aircraft. Improvements to airfield lighting, NAVAIDS and signage were also made.
