- Operations and Training Facility
Burns & McDonnell provided professional architectural and engineering services for a new two-story operation and training facility for the 177th Fighter Wing of the New Jersey Air National Guard located at Atlantic City International Airport in Egg Harbor Township, N.J.
The facility houses the key wing administrative and command functions staffed to operate in support of 15 PAA F-16 aircraft. Functional areas include: wing commander and staff, environmental manager, public affairs, safety, support group commander, judge advocate, public relations, accounting and finance, logistics plans, chaplain, historian, personnel, publications distributions, social actions, counseling, family support, recruiting, comptroller, conference areas, and classrooms.
The 19,200-square-foot building is primarily office space with a 2,400 square-foot multi-purpose room. Administrative functions, which receive a larger percentage of visitors, are on the first floor. The second floor contains command functions and those administrative functions that require a quieter work environment. The multipurpose room can be accessed from the front and back of the building without disruption of the adjacent administrative spaces on the first floor.
The site is between Langley Road, Curtis Street, Earhart Drive and Mitchell Trail, providing easy access and high visibility for this facility. The building meets UFC 4-010-01 Anti-Terrorism Force Protection (ATFP) standards. The project also included expansion of the existing parking lot on the north side of the site.
In accordance with Air National Guard sustainable design requirements, the facility was designed to attain LEED Silver certification.
