- PG&E NERC Compliance
For PG&E's NERC compliance effort, Burns & McDonnell completed a desktop review and a LiDAR/PLS-CADD analysis of PG&E's high-priority 115-, 230- and 500-kV transmission system, totaling approximately 4,000 circuit miles.
The approach for this review was based on the criteria and methodology established by PG&E and further defined with Burns & McDonnell engineering. Where discrepancies were encountered, the lines received further verification through LiDAR. Burns & McDonnell obtained aerial surveys of these transmission facilities and used the data to develop PLS-CADD models of each line with an accurate representation of survey conditions. The models were then used to perform a thermal rating assessment for each line and to develop a summary of results showing any points of interest. Burns & McDonnell is working with PG&E to develop mitigation engineering plans for addressing the points of interest that include transmission field walk-downs, design efforts, estimating and construction feasibility planning.
Burns & McDonnell subcontracted with Tetra Tech Geomatic Technologies in Lafayette, Calif., for the project's LiDAR needs.
