- Plant Security Strategy
Our team evaluated the options available for a nuclear plant to reduce operations and maintenance (O&M) costs associated with security while determining the impact of a new administration building outside the protected area (PA). We provided several cost saving options, including relocating the primary access control point, reducing the PA size, removing a warehouse from the PA and reanalyzing the blast capability of the small vehicle barrier for design basis threat protection.
The options produced a streamlined process for getting materials into the PA and more flexibility with operational assignments for responders. The O&M cost savings ranged from $2 million to $5 million a year with a return on investment of three to six years.
